Our First Date

FIRST DATE: March 2009
AND...A few months after that
I got the phone call i had been anticipating from Paul. It only took him three months from the time he got my number to use it in the way i had been hoping. He asked me on a double date to go up to Park City to see a comedian and go to one of Paul's favorite Mexican restaurants. I of course said yes and as that weekend approached i had been planning what i was going to wear for the whole week. Friday came and i still hadn't found the perfect outfit yet. I was living in Provo at the time and three hours before Paul was going to pick me up at my house in Draper i was running around my apartment frantically trying to find what to wear. Two of my roommates were there putting together different outfits of what i should wear and trying to calm me down. It only took literally, 25 outfits before i found the one i wanted. i said goodbye to my roommates and drove up to my house in Draper. Paul showed up at my house, of course, looking handsome. He walked me out to the car and got my door for me.
I remember looking up at my brothers bedroom window seeing one of the blinds peeked open with my mom and dads eyes placed perfectly centered in between the opened blind.
We met up with Zach Hewlett and his date and drove up to see Jason Hewlett the comedian/entertainer. Lets just say we had a blast. He was hilarious! I will say though Paul did get a little jealous during the night. There was the most darling chubbby boy sitting in front of me who would turn around every 5 minutes to smile at me. He was probably about nine years old and was wearing a tuxedo. The little boy kept giggling at me every time i smiled back at him.
Its no secret to anyone the love that i have for little kids. I love ALL children, its kind of a curse to love all children and want them for yourself. Paul found this out about me very early on.
He always says that he was jealous this little boy took my heart before Paul had a chance to take it.
We went out for dinner after the show to Baja Cantina. Its a cute little Mexican restaurant, we sat right next to the that fire place.
On the car ride home i made it very easy for him to make another attempt to holding my hand. We were sitting in the back seat and i placed my hand dead center on the middle seat. He surprised me this time. It only took him a few seconds to reach over and hold my hand. My heart skipped a beat and i was so excited he finally held my hand. We got back to our car and Paul drove me home. We got to my house, he parked the car in my driveway and we sat and talked for hours. I was starting to really like him. Paul was unlike anyone i had ever dated before. And that scared me a little bit, it almost felt to good to be true. He was sincere, kind, he listened, he made me laugh, and the list goes on and on. We talked about life, our families etc. I invited Paul in to get a drink before he headed home.
Warning: This is where the juicy part comes in.

I was realizing that Paul is someone that takes things slow and was a little hesitant. My judgement was not fully there at the end of the night. We sat down on the couch, it was about 1:30 in the morning. I looked at Paul and thought he was the cutest thing i'd ever seen.... so... i reached over and kissed him right on the lips.

Now i would strongly suggest that no one does this on the first date. Lets just put it this way i didn't hear from Paul for two weeks after this date.
We sit and laugh about this story forever anytime one of us brings it up. It has been one of the big jokes about how i couldn't keep my hands off of him and attacked him on our first date.
After it had been a few weeks of not really hearing anything from him but little text conversations here or there i decided to apologize for my irrational decision to smooch him on our first date. He accepted my apology and said that he wasn't avoiding me
which was so not true
He had just been studying for the DAT. The DAT is the test they take before they can get into dental school. He said that he was been studying like crazy and hasn't really been talking or hanging out with anyone. I told him i understood and that when he wanted a break i would love to see him. Over the next month i would see him every once in a while for a quick slurpee run or to go for a drive. He was very busy and working hard to do good on his test.

One week before Paul was going to take the DAT i decided to go drop off a treat on his doorstep. I pulled up to his house, walked up to the porch.... and saw a Cafe Rio bag sitting there. With a card that said Paul in girl handwriting. haha i quickly ran and jumped back into my car. I realized that some other girl had beat me to the chase already!! I was on the verge of giving up. I was making a fool of myself. I called Bambi and told her the events of the night. She told me to come over to her house. She said that Celeste was coming over to say hi, but that we could talk about it once she went home. At this point i don't think Celeste knew very much about Paul and i, other than we had been on one date back in March. When i got to her house Celeste said that Paul had been getting all sorts of awesome treats from girls the whole month he had been studying. Celeste stayed and talked with us for a few more hours and then went home. Bambi and i talked and she got me all motivated again to win Paul over from all these other girls.
I laugh about it now and tease Paul for being the ladies man.
The next night i drove to Paul's to drop off all of his favorite treats. The next morning he sent me a thanks you text and was impressed that i remembered all of his favorite treats. Those other girls didn't stand a chance at this point :)

The day of the DAT
I sent Paul a good luck text and asked him if he would go out with me next weekend to celebrate all of his hard work of studying for the last month. He said he would love to go! I was so excited and for the next week i thought of what i could do for our official second date.
